Announcement: The Inaugurual Taiwan Youth Development Pool 2018 - Applications Open Now!
After a period of engaging with various stakeholders in the Taiwanese debate community, we have decided to introduce the inaugural programme of the "Taiwan Youth Development Pool”.
The Development Pool is intended to be a stepping stone to guide younger debaters (targeting students currently in Grade 10 or below) towards future success in parliamentary debate style competitions, with a particular emphasis on the World Schools (WS) format currently being coached to the Taiwan National Pool. It is different from the Team Taiwan National Pool – selected only a few weeks ago – in its scope and ambition. Training schedules will be less frequent, but much more flexible and negotiated with the Development Pool debaters’ legal guardians. We are currently proposing a significant portion of the coaching to be conducted online. Coaching will focus on developing fundamental debate skills. However, similarly to the National Pool, we also envision sending Development Pool debaters to competitions this year.
You can read more about the rationale for this programme, as well as eligibility and preferential consideration criteria, by clicking through to the link below.
We are very excited to be doing this for the first time and we see this as a reflection of the increasing popularity of debate in Taiwan. It is although undoubtedly due to the increased support we have received.
To ensure a streamlined and successful application process, and to ensure we are able to meet certain urgent deadlines to plan for international competitions, we are opening applications for a short period of time.
***Please note that the deadline for applications is this Thursday 18th January 2018, 23:59 local Taipei time.***
